Invited Speaker at the 2026 ASIL Annual Meeting: BBNJ Implementation Architecture

Pleased to share that I have been invited to speak at the 2026 ASIL Annual Meeting in Washington, DC (22–25 April) on the panel “From Treaty Text to Practice: Establishing the BBNJ Implementation Architecture.”

The BBNJ Agreement entered into force in January 2026. The question now is how its provisions will be operationalised — particularly for marine genetic resources, where AI-driven bioprospecting is transforming how biodiversity is accessed and used. This is exactly what our panel will address.

I am honoured to join this panel alongside Christina Leb (World Bank) and Nico Schrijver (Leiden University, Grotius Centre).

My contribution draws on the AI and Marine Environmental Policy (AIMEP) project at Maastricht University, funded by the ELS Academy.

Looking forward to the conversation.
