Proud to share the new Deep-Ocean Stewardship Initiative (DOSI) Policy Brief on implementing the BBNJ Agreement’s regime for marine genetic resources, released as we approach the Agreement’s entry into force in January 2026.
This Brief brings together researchers and practitioners to offer clear, practical recommendations on how institutions can work together more effectively in this next phase of global ocean governance. Key themes include:
Coherence and coordination to avoid regulatory fragmentation; fair and equitable approaches to MGR/DSI; inclusive participation, ensuring that diverse knowledge systems inform implementation; better monitoring and accountability, particularly for the Clearing-House Mechanism; and practical steps for early action from benefit-sharing to joint initiatives across regimes.
This work shows why policy engagement matters: the decisions taken now will shape how the BBNJ Agreement functions in practice, and how its commitments to stewardship and equity are realised across the deep ocean.
